Valentine’s Stories told by Aimee, Jules and Liz.

First dates going wrong until they ended up being so right, the best ways to say sorry after those inevitable fights and how they survived lockdown… we talk to a few of our friends about some of their best lessons they learnt as a couple.

AIMEE & JACOPO

IF OUR RELATIONSHIP WAS A MOVIE…

According to Jacopo, it would be It's Complicated, but for me, it would be Serendipity. It was very serendipitous how we met in Morocco.

WHAT WE LEARNED TOGETHER IN LOCKDOWN

We had a long-distance relationship prior to the lockdown so spending a lot of time together made me truly see who he is and how he is in a bigger way, he’s so patient, so kind and gentle, especially with my dogs.

OUR BEST DATE IS…

Honestly any time we're together and fully present. Whether that's going on a walk, watching a movie while ordering our favourite takeout, or being the first ones at the hotel buffet when we're travelling!

THE BEST WAY TO SAY SORRY…

Talking about it in an honest way, and being able to put yourself in the other person's shoes. Also, saying sorry without adding a 'but'!

THE THING YOU LOVE TO HATE ABOUT HIM.

When we are grocery shopping and I’m getting my own snacks, he says he doesn’t want any, but then always eats mine and doesn’t bother asking me if he could have them. Ah! So annoying!

WHAT WE LEARNT IN LOCKDOWN.

It’s been so sweet to watch him learn and do things for our home (he’s not really a handyman!) so I love all the love, time and energy he’s put into the house for us.

OUR BEST DATE WAS…

Our first one, but actually so many things went wrong! After three long months of talking, we were finally meeting in Paris, but he was 2 hours late to pick me up with no dinner reservations. We walked around for several blocks (I was getting blisters in my heels!) before we ended up at a restaurant where I couldn’t eat anything on the menu. So no dinner, it was late, and we left to meet his friends at a bar, where he touched my glass too hard and my red drink splashed all over my white top. After all that we just had to laugh and say “this is a perfect, imperfect first date!” It was an instant love connection and attraction though, and we had our first kiss that night right behind the Eiffel Tower in the middle of the street….so on the other hand, it can’t get more romantic than that!

THE BEST WAY TO SAY SORRY…

I’m all about actions and affection so a nice hand-written card to say sorry, a nice, tight hug and a big kiss means the world!

LIZ & RAYMOND

IF OUR LOVE STORY WAS A MOVIE, IT WOULD BE…

Love Actually! A story best told through many moments, both unforgettable and mundane, that only made us stronger through time.

THE THING I LOVE TO HATE.

That he is unorganized (clutter here and there) and I’m almost too organised. Opposites attract, they say.

WHAT WE LEARNED IN LOCKDOWN.

He will always put us, his family, first. Whether it's cooking our favourite meals or letting us hog the telly, Raymond lets us win each time.

OUR WORST DATE EVER…

Definitely, a forgettable moment, where we fought at an equally forgettable hotel.

TO DESCRIBE HIM WITH L-O-V-E:
