OUR CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP

Jules Sariñana, a.k.a. Sincerely Jules, is one of the most successful fashion influencers out there. Since meeting her husband Kevin in 2015, they’ve worked together to create all the content that reaches her 5.6 million followers. She shares the key to an ideal partnership.

“Dream. Believe. Achieve” has always been Jules’ motto since starting her lifestyle blog back in 2009, just before the birth of Instagram. Her goal is to create content that inspires beyond the everyday. Since meeting her husband in Paris (“I know, so romantic!) five years ago, he’s been the photographer behind all the imagery for her social media channels. “It was super organic how he started shooting me,” she says. “Our connection romantically and creatively is something I’ve never had so it just felt natural for us to work together.”

HOW DID YOU FIRST MEET KEVIN?

He sent me a DM through Instagram. I never checked my messages back then, so it was interesting that I did check that weekend. I think it was meant to be! I looked at his profile and thought he was super cute so we talked back and forth for hours that weekend and he asked if he could take me out for coffee. Long story short, I didn’t meet him on that trip but we exchanged numbers and kept in touch when I flew back to LA. We talked everyday for 3 months until we decided to meet. I flew to Paris and we’ve been together since!

YOU WORK TOGETHER ON CREATING IMAGES FOR YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS, WHAT IS THE CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE?

Luckily, we both have the same aesthetic, making it easy to execute any project. We sit down to brainstorm ideas together and then we try to put a Pinterest board together to make sure we are both on the same page.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE CREATIVE DIFFERENCES?

This does happen! When it does, we try to compromise and talk through which idea would be best and why. We might disagree on some days, but we understand that communication is key and we trust each other’s ideas and vision.

HOW DO YOU STOP WORK-LIFE INVADING YOUR PERSONAL SPACE?

One of the most important tips is to set boundaries. We really make it a point to separate the two by not being on our phones when we are spending time together, not talking about work while we are eating or hanging with friends and putting our phones away, especially when we are travelling, in order to soak everything in together.

WHAT CHANGED/DIDN’T CHANGE IN LOCKDOWN?

It was an interesting shift in our work and tested our creativity in a good way. Being limited with locations and resources, we had to adjust how we can produce the same quality, dreamy content from our home. It’s been quite fun being able to shoot at home and being creative with our backyard, rooftop or any other part of our house. It’s never been something I thought I’d be doing from home, but I love that we’ve become a bit more creative.

OVERALL, DID YOU FIND IT TO BE A PRODUCTIVE PERIOD OF TIME?

As much as it has been restrictive, it also has been such a productive period. Previously, with my constant travelling, I never had the chance to do house projects on our to-do list. Now, we’ve gotten so many things done like building our library and my walk-in closet, but also learning how to cook and bake so many new recipes. It’s been so refreshing!

IS THERE ANYTHING NEW YOU LEARNT ABOUT EACH OTHER AFTER SPENDING SO MUCH TIME TOGETHER THEN?

I’ve learned that Kevin’s capable of being so proactive and teach himself how to do things for the house or for himself. I’ve been really inspired by him recently because I’ve witnessed such a different side of him that I hadn’t seen before and now, I love. We’ve been such a good team during this time and it has only made us appreciate each other more.

YOU STARTED SINCERELY JULES IN 2009, WILL THERE COME A DAY WHERE YOU WANT TO PIVOT WITH THE NATURE OF THE CONTENT YOU PRODUCE?

I ask myself this question quite a lot because I'm always thinking ahead. I think as I get older, and evolve as a person, my content will naturally evolve as well, but no matter what, the core of my content will always be to produce dreamy content that helps inspire people.

YOU’VE AMASSED A HUGE FOLLOWING OVER THE YEARS – DO YOU THINK IT’S MORE DIFFICULT FOR PEOPLE STARTING OUT? WHAT WOULD BE YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR THEM?

It can be more difficult to get started because the industry is oversaturated with thousands of girls, making it hard for someone to stand out. On the other hand, this can be a good thing because you’re almost set up for success with the amount of people doing this now. I’d say just always be true to who you are, be consistent and don’t let anyone say you can’t do something.
